Why did the energy storage system get a promotion?
Because it was really good at keeping things "current"!
Welcome back to 10 companies to watch 🚀
Lots of good stuff is finally happening to the grid. So what better time than now to sit down with Arvin Ganesan from Fourth Power.
With all of this good stuff and a little more spare time on your hands, we’ve put out 10 Companies to Watch: Energy Storage.
Before you dive into this list, if you’re not already a subscriber, be a homie and follow along for more.

Energy Storage
👉 Smartville | Last Raise Nov 2023, $2.65M (Grant) | [USA]
Taking batteries from EVs and making Energy Storage solutions out of them — how’s that for circular! ♻️
👉 Sparkz | Last Raise April 2022, $5M (Grant) | [USA]
Doing a favor for all battery manufacturers and producing Cathode materials in the US
👉 Inlyte Energy | Last Raise Oct 2023, $7.9M | [USA]
Making grid-scale batteries from inexpensive raw materials (i.e., not supply chain constrained) — who would have thought we could not use the expensive, ultra-rare materials to build batteries?
👉 Altiro Energy | Last Raise Dec 2023, N/A | [Canada]
Using #science to separate oxygen and iron and then rejoin them rapidly to produce a S***load of heat —> Energy Storage
👉 Travertine | Last Raise June 2022, $3M | [USA]
Tossing out “that’s just how it’s done” in producing critical minerals used in batteries (among other things) by ‘recharging’ critical elements (in an electrified way). Ooo—Electrifying!
👉 Sylvatex | Last Raise Sep 2022, $8.4M | [USA]
This company (also a past pod guest) aims to produce cathode materials in the US without water, thus advancing water security and supply chain security
👉 Ouros | Last Raise May 2024, $3M | [USA]
Making batteries that are 10x more dense and 100x more cost-effective than Lithium Ion batteries (with 0… count ‘em 0) performance tradeoffs
👉 Gravity Storage | Last Raise Aug 2019, $10M | [Germany]
Similar to well-known ArcTern-backed Hydrostor, they are aiming to leverage cheap energy during the day to life a big ass weight, and then let it fall down when the sun isn’t shining. Pretty simple but simple is good!
👉 Power Edison | Last Raise Unknown, N/A | [USA]
Providing mobile energy storage solutions so you can literally park a big ass battery near the source of need — useful during natural disasters, grid outages, or pop-up Taylor Swift concerts
👉 Quidnet Energy | Last Raise Nov 2022, $10M (Grant) | [USA]
Producing modular geomechanical energy storage equipment — basically, they pump water underground, and then it is released and spins turbines
Please note: this is NOT investment advice. Do your own research.
No one affiliated with CleanTechies has investments in any of these companies.
